Mrs. Kari Bittinger, Principal

The completion of a home/school compact is an essential component of our educational program. This compact outlines how the entire school staff, guardians, and students will share responsibility for improved academic achievement and the ways we will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve high standards.

School Responsibilities:

Middle Paxton Elementary will:
  • Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables students to meet Pennsylvania’s academic standards, including:
    • A district-approved curriculum aligned with state standards.
    • Research-based instructional programs.
    • Highly qualified teachers implementing best practices.
    • Flexibility to accommodate family learning needs.
  • This compact will be discussed as it relates to the student’s individual academic progress.
  • Provide guardians with frequent reports on their child’s progress:
    • Report cards issued online three times per year (K–1 begin in Trimester 2).
    • Progress reports for grades 3–5.
    • Data letters shared with guardians.
    • Conferences held in November 2025 and March 2026.
  • Ensure staff can be reached via email, phone, or scheduled appointments within school hours. Contact information is available on the Central Dauphin School District website (www.cdschools.org) and through HAC (Home Access Center). Teachers will also use classroom communication tools (e.g., ClassDojo)
  • Provide opportunities for guardians to volunteer in the classroom, attend school events, and observe activities, in accordance with the school handbook.
  • The principal will share a Family Flyer newsletter every two weeks.
  • Offer translation services and provide documents in families' preferred languages when requested.
  • Maintain an open-door policy to meet with and support families as needed, based on availability and scheduling with the principal

Family Responsibilities:

Families will support their student’s learning in the following ways:
  • Monitor student attendance and submit a signed excuse note within 3 days upon returning from absence. Excuses can be written and sent in with students or scanned and emailed to: mpeattendance@cdschools.org.
  • Ensure that schoolwork and homework (including digital assignments) are completed by the due date provided by the teacher.
  • Monitor screen time, including use of social media.
  • Volunteer at the school, join MPSA (Middle Paxton School Association), or serve on advisory groups to support school-wide initiatives and events.
  • Participate in educational decision-making related to their child.
  • Encourage productive use of free time for extracurricular and enrichment activities.
  • Stay informed and communicate with the school by reading and responding to school/district notices.
  • Attend school-sponsored workshops or family events.

Student Responsibilities:

Students at Middle Paxton Elementary will share the responsibility for improving their academic achievement and meeting Pennsylvania’s high standards by:
  • Bringing necessary materials and bookbags to and from school daily.
  • Completing all homework and digital learning assignments, asking for help when needed.
  • Daily reading and math practice outside of school time.
  • Giving guardians all school notices and information daily.
  • Following the PBIS Expectations by being respectful, responsible, prepared, and safe at school, during virtual learning, on the bus, and in the community.
  • Demonstrating respectful behavior on social media and digital platforms.
